New Ford TDCi Wagon on Display

February 29, 2008

A stylish new Mondeo turbo-diesel wagon was revealed at the Melbourne International Motor Show today, tempting consumers with a fuel efficient, safety-laden sports-styled wagon boasting high-end features and class-leading dynamics attributes.

"If approved for Australia, the Mondeo turbo-diesel wagon would be the perfect complement to the existing award-winning Mondeo line-up and would fill the sports-wagon niche between that sedan range and the Falcon wagon," said Ford Australia President Bill Osborne.

"We're taking this opportunity to gauge show-goers reaction to this exhilarating new model as we believe its inclusion could add another exciting option to the Ford passenger vehicle line-up."

The turbo-diesel engine in the Mondeo wagon is a new torque-oozing 2.2-litre powerplant, delivering 129 kilowatts, 400 Newton metres and exceptional fuel economy.

The wagon also offers a safety package mirroring that of its sedan and hatch siblings.

Safety features include an enhanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS) complemented by an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Dynamic Stability Control, an automatic hazard warning light and seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag and full length side curtain airbags.

Load carrying space is equally impressive, offering luggage capacity of 535 litres with the seats up and increasing to a whopping 1733 litres with the rear passenger row of seats folded flat.

"This capacity is an indicator of the huge potential that the Mondeo TDCi wagon offers, especially to families who might prefer the versatility offered by a wagon to transport luggage, sports gear or holiday equipment," said Mr Osborne.

Mondeo's dramatic kinetic design is a signature aesthetic associated with the established range and is similarly featured on the turbo-diesel wagon. Further added visual appeal is provided by 18-inch alloy wheels on the display vehicle.

Creature comforts also abound, including a Sony premium sound system (a six-disc CD player with eight speakers and MP3 compatibility), rain sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control and a leather wrapped steering wheel.

Other innovative features enhancing overall user-friendliness and functionality include keyless entry and keyless start, Alcantara/leather trimmed heated front and rear seats, sunblinds, sunroof and voice control with Bluetooth.

"The Mondeo wagon TDCi would be an ideal family vehicle, offering performance, safety, load-carrying ability and oodles of style," said Mr Osborne.

"Show attendee's reaction to the display model will be a large influencer on our decision to possibly introduce the Mondeo TDCi wagon as part of the permanent line-up."
