Freshened Territory SUV Builds On Ford’s Leading Lineup Of Utility Vehicles

Refreshed Territory SUV styling delivers purposeful look with packaging and space customers have come to expect from the award-winning SUV

Territory leads Ford’s line-up of smart, efficient utility vehicles that recently was bolstered by the addition of the Ford Kuga compact SUV and EcoSport sub-compact SUV

Falcon G6E continues powerful and refined look already seen in the XR8 with signature trapezoidal grille, chiselled headlights with daytime running lamps.

MELBOURNE, 28 Jul., 2014 – The freshened Territory will arrive later this year with a more modern look with the space and functionality that helped it spur Australia’s SUV craze that continues today.

As SUV sales have increased, Ford has bolstered its utility vehicle line-up with the addition of the globally acclaimed Ford Kuga compact and EcoSport sub-compact SUVs.

Ford released images of Territory and new Falcon G6E to reveal exterior designs that bring both into harmony with the rest of the Ford product portfolio in Australia.

The Melbourne-based Ford design team has taken the Territory to new levels with a bold grille and headlight execution that point to Ford’s global SUV styling.

The multi-award winning SUV features a distinctive, refined front-end treatment that combines a purposeful new look with the packaging, functionality and space that customers have come to expect from the Ford Territory.

Utility leader

As one of the country’s most popular SUVs, Mr. Nima Nourian, Exterior Design Manager said the new Territory had a lot to live up to.

“Our customers appreciate the functionality, seven-seat capability and fuel efficiency of the turbo-diesel but we also wanted to deliver a new level of visual appeal with the 2014 Territory,” he said.

“For 2014 the Territory gains a more robust, yet refined design and you won’t mistake it for anything else but a Territory,” he said. “Visually the surfacing is more architectural and achieves a very cohesive and sophisticated look.”

Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano, said the Ford Territory set the benchmark for family-friendly SUVs when it was launched. “The new-look Territory is set to carry this on,” he said. “Our customers love the comfort, space and fuel efficiency and now the refreshed design will provide another compelling reason to buy.”

The customer base for the Ford Territory is huge. More than 155,000 Territory SUVs have been sold since the nameplate launched in 2004 and this SUV remains a favourite with Australian families.

“It consistently ranks as one of the best-sellers in its class and importantly for our customers, is the only Australian designed and engineered SUV,” Graziano said.

Ford Territory customers will be able to choose from the proven six-cylinder petrol engine as well as the popular V6 TDCi engine, which currently accounts for more than half of all Territory sales.

To the end of June 2014, Ford has sold more than 155,000 Territorys, excluding exports. The peak sales year for Territory was 2005 when 23,454 were sold. Ford currently exports Territorys to New Zealand and has in the past exported to Thailand and South Africa.

Distinctive Falcon
The Falcon G6E provides a powerful and refined look that befits the prestige Falcon model, already seen in the sporty XR series. The Falcon G6E also carries a globally identifiable ‘Face’ of Ford, with the new trapezoidal grille that features detailed chrome surrounds, chiseled head lamps and discreet bright work.

The Exterior Design Manager for the 2014 Falcon, Nima Nourian, said the design brief for the G6E was to give customers a premium look, by implementing the Ford trapezoidal grille with strong technical graphics in the head lamps.

“The G6E provides a new level of design detailing. Even casually glancing at the G6E you can see it’s a premium vehicle,” Nourian said. “There’s some fine craftsmanship in the bright-work and the way the front and rear design treatments mesh with the jewelry on the car. It’s very well executed, even down to the front fender vent.”

Product onslaught
Pricing, features and specifications of the new Falcon and Territory range will be revealed closer to launch. The Falcon range and ute, and Ford Territory go on sale later this year.

The arrival of the 2014 Falcon and Territory spearheads a massive product onslaught in 2015 with the arrival of the refreshed Focus lineup, Focus ST update, all-new Mondeo, Mustang EcoBoost and V8 and the eagerly anticipated Ford Everest SUV.

By 2017 Ford in Australia will have refreshed, or completely updated, its entire lineup.

“We’ve only just started,” Graziano said. “With the arrival of the 2014 Falcon and Territory, we’re ramping up to enhance our product portfolio and provide a comprehensive range of vehicles that our customers value and desire. Among the vehicles arriving next year are the iconic Ford Mustang, all-new Mondeo and Everest SUV.”
