Melbourne, March 12, 2019 – The updated Ford Transit Custom will bring Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection as standard across the range, with the introduction of the new Transit Custom Sport and Double Cab-in-Van models to offer Australian buyers more choice.
Winner of the inaugural 2018 Drive Commercial of the Year, the Transit Custom has now seen its standard specification include a full suite of Driver Assist Technology, building on its five-star ANCAP rating, in addition to fresh new body styles, power-train upgrades and a sports-oriented Transit Custom for the first time. Certain Transit Custom models can now also tow more and carry more, while the full range brings more equipment than ever before.
“The Transit Custom is going from strength to strength, and we know that Australian buyers are looking for even greater versatility and more choice when it comes to their work van,” said Kay Hart, Ford Australia and New Zealand President and CEO. “With AEB as standard on every model and the new Transit Custom Sport available in both Van and Double Cab-in-Van body styles, we’ve covered practicality and personality for customers looking for capability and character.”
The latest Transit Custom builds on previous updates that have included an automatic transmission, more than 100 Special Vehicle Option paint colours and SYNC 3 with a full colour 8.0" touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto1 smartphone capability. In addition, Transit Custom continues to offer 30,000km service intervals, to keep you on the road longer, as
well as a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty as standard.
Transit Custom owners also stand to benefit from an increasing compelling Ford Service Benefits program. In addition to Service Loan Car, VanCare Membership (including Roadside Assistance) and sat-nav updates, Transit Custom ownership includes a maximum cost of $349 (including GST) for the first four years/120,000km (whichever occurs first) of scheduled servicing at dealerships.

Transit Custom: Technology comes standard
The updated Transit Custom brings a comprehensive suite of Safety and Driver Assist Technology (DAT) as standard on every model. The full suite of standard DAT on the updated Transit Custom includes:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
- Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) with Driver Alert
- Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Automatic Headlamps with Auto High Beam function
- Rain-sensing Wipers

These features build on Transit Custom’s already strong offering of standard DAT, safety and convenience equipment that includes:
- Six airbags (Driver, front passenger, front side curtain, front side seat)
- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Roll-Over Mitigation and Trailer Sway Control
- Side-wind Stabilisation, Load Adaptive Control and Hill Launch Assist
- Full colour rear-view camera
- Front and rear parking sensors
- SYNC Emergency Assist

From the driver’s seat, Transit Custom also brings a quick clear heated windscreen to complement the standard heated front seats on cold winter mornings. A 4.2-inch full colour instrument cluster, previously only available with the optional Technology Pack, is now standard, and joins MyKey – a programmable key that can be used to restrict vehicle settings such as speed, Driver Assist Technology and audio settings – for peace of mind.

Great capability, more momentum
Transit Custom’s advanced common-rail turbo-diesel engine has been upgraded to meet Euro 6.2 emissions standards, while now also delivering a substantial 125kW of power, 30-percent more than before. Along with 390Nm of torque, the upgraded 2.0-litre EcoBlue power-train further strengthens Transit Custom’s award-winning capabilities.
Alongside improvements to Transit Custom’s power-train, Short Wheelbase (SWB) models benefit from an increase to the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and Gross Combination Mass (GCM) ratings, delivering greater payload and towing capability that has been demanded by customers. A new 340S designation replaces the prior 300S for the SWB Van, reflecting the new 3400kg GVM, while the increased GCM enables the 6-speed automatic Transit Custom to achieve a maximum 2150kg braked towing capacity (previously 1800kg).

Transit Custom 320S Sport Van:
Personality and practicality meet in the sportiest model yet: the new Transit Custom 320S Sport Van. The Sport adds even more performance with 136kW of power and 405Nm of torque – available exclusively as a six-speed automatic – in addition to distinctive exterior and equipment upgrades. These all combine to deliver a stylish and powerful van for Australians who want to stand out from the crowd, while still offering Transit Custom’s renowned practicality and highly-praised driving dynamics.
Making a statement with racing-inspired stripes and unique decals, the 320S Sport Van also adds 17-inch black machined alloy wheels and a body styling kit with unique front and rear bumpers plus side skirts. Body coloured mirrors and a gloss black grille up front are joined by Bi-Xenon HID headlights that also feature static bending and LED Daytime Running Lights for greater visibility and a unique light signature. The Transit Custom 320S Sport is also offered in two exclusive colours – an athletic Blue Metallic and bold Orange Glow. On board the Transit Custom 320S Sport, an upgraded interior includes a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and partial leather seat trim to complement the textured leather steering wheel. Design details include a gloss black applique and detailing, plus chrome vent surrounds to add to the premium and sporty nature of the vehicle. The rear load area features new LED lighting for greater visibility, complementing the steel bulkhead, side wall trim board and load floor protection standard on all Transit Custom van models.

Further expanding the line-up, the new Transit Custom Double Cab-in-Van (DCiV) receives the same updates as regular Van models, including the upgraded power-train and standard AEB with Pedestrian Detection, with up to six-passenger carrying capability.
With dual cargo and passenger-carrying capability, the Transit Custom DCiV will be offered exclusively as a Long Wheelbase (LWB) in two specifications: the base 340L DCiV, and 320L Sport DCiV. Available exclusively with the six-speed auto transmission, both models offer a standard rear bulkhead, spacious second-row seating accessed by dual side load doors, and an ample 4.4-cubic metres of load space.
In base 340L guise, the Transit Custom DCiV is standard with six seats – three at the front and three at the rear. Its specification reflects the highly-equipped Van models, including 125kW/390Nm EcoBlue power-train, comprehensive DAT suite with Adaptive Cruise Control, AEB with Pedestrian Detection, plus SYNC 3 with an 8.0-inch touchscreen. The 320L Sport DCiV is targeted towards buyers looking for a capable, premium van that can be used for both work and family duties, with five seats including separate driver and front passenger seats. It offers the same additional features as the 320S Sport Van, including the more potent 136kW/405Nm EcoBlue power-train, standard Sat-nav, partial leather seat trim with eight-way power driver’s seat, and sports styling with 17-inch machined alloy wheels and Bi-Xenon HID headlamps.

Transit Custom: Have it your way

On top of its broadest, most highly quipped line-up ever offered in Australia, Transit Custom also brings a comprehensive options list allowing customers to further customise their van to suit their needs. Door configurations to suit business and lifestyle needs include a rear cargo door lift-gate available on all models, while on Van models dual side-load doors can be optioned with or without windows.
Liberating additional space is a High-Roof option first introduced in 2018, offered on the base SWB and LWB van models.
Additionally, Transit Custom 340S and 340L models are available in more than 100 Special Vehicle Option colours, meaning your Transit Custom arrives with factory finish paintwork in your business’ colour and reduces time off the road for painting and re-assembly. The updated Ford Transit Custom range, including the new 320S Sport Van, 340L DCiV and 320L Sport DCiV will be on sale in Australian Ford dealerships from September 2019.
