Local ANCAP audit test sees Ford Endura offer improved safety performance

The 2019 Ford Endura has demonstrated an increased level of safety performance as part of its existing five-star rating, with an independently verified crash test carried out in Australia by ANCAP Safety.

ANCAP performed the audit test in Australia, enabling its own data set to verify the high level of standard equipment in Endura, and the additional performance the Australian model provides to occupant and overall levels of safety

The Endura is a premium SUV that comes as standard with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection; Lane Keep Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, Post Collision Braking and a suite of seven airbags on every model

Ford Service Benefits are part of the Endura ownership experience, with a maximum service price of $299 for the first four years/60,000km (whichever comes first), a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, Ford Loan Car Program and Auto Club Membership available to eligible customers and participating dealers

Melbourne, 11 July, 2019 – The 2019 Ford Endura has demonstrated an increased level of safety reinforcing its existing five-star rating, with an independently verified crash test carried out in Australia by ANCAP Safety.

The local test was prompted by the Ford Endura’s higher Australian standard specification when compared to the European market Edge model previously tested, and was carried out with a vehicle ANCAP purchased independently of Ford to ensure a genuine representation of a production model available to customers in Australia. Following the test, ANCAP has published an updated Technical Report for the 2019 Endura, acknowledging an improved audit test score of 94 percent for Adult Occupant Protection – an increase from 87 percent.

“The Endura’s advanced safety features and Driver Assist Technology have been fitted as standard specifically for our market, because we know that Australians in this segment demand a high level of assurance, technology and safety when choosing a premium SUV,” said Ford Australia and New Zealand CEO and President, Kay Hart. “ANCAP plays an important role for consumers in understanding the safety levels offered in new vehicles, and we’re pleased that Endura has improved on this in an independently verified audit test by an agency with the highest level of credibility.”

The Endura was rated as a five-star model when it was launched in Australia in late 2018 based on Euro NCAP testing of a different specification model. While representative of the core model, the higher level of equipment made as standard for every model Endura sold in Australia, prompted ANCAP to reassess the vehicle in a further independent audit test.

“Audit testing is a routine and integral part of our test and assessment process, and it is done to provide consumers with assurance that they can rely on ANCAP safety rating information when buying a car,” said ANCAP CEO, James Goodwin.
The audit test, carried out at Crashlab in Sydney was conducted on a brand-new 2019 Ford Endura Trend in a full-width frontal crash test scenario. The test is designed to assess not only the vehicle structure, but also the effectiveness of the restraint system for both front and rear seat occupants.
The results verified the Euro NCAP assessment of five stars, however the additional local analysis saw ANCAP acknowledge the improved audit test result in its Technical Report, available to Australian consumers when shopping for a new vehicle, due to the significant improvement offered by the improved restraint system fitted across the Endura line-up.

“The Ford Endura was already a five-star rated vehicle when it launched, yet Ford Australia has improved the safety specification of Endura models supplied to our market through the inclusion of seatbelt pre-tensioners for rear [outboard] seats, which sees improved occupant protection for rear seat occupants,” Goodwin said. “The Endura is a vehicle designed and used to transport families, so it’s encouraging to see Ford Australia prioritise the safety of rear seat occupants for our market.”

Every model in the Ford Endura line-up offers, as standard:

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
Lane Keeping Aid with Lane Keep Assist
Adaptive Cruise Control (with Auto Speed Limiter Device)
Evasive Steer Assist
Traffic Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Assist
AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control and Post-Collision Braking
Emergency Brake Assist
Hill Start Assist
ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Traction Control and Post-Collision Braking
Seven airbags, including driver and front passenger, side curtain, side-front and driver knee airbags
Seatbelt minder/monitors for all rows
SYNC 3 with 8.0-inch full-colour touchscreen and voice-activated Sat-nav
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility
Emergency Assistance
Programmable MyKey

The positive ANCAP audit test result bolsters the Endura ownership experience, which includes the Ford Service Benefits program. For the first four years/60,000km (whichever comes first), eligible customers will be able to service their Endura for a maximum recommended price of $299 (incl. GST) per A or B logbook service at participating dealerships.

This further demonstrates the strength of Ford Service Benefits, including the added value of a Service Loan Car, Auto Club membership (including Roadside Assistance), Sat-nav updates, Vehicle Report Card, and the peace of mind of experienced factory trained technicians when customers service at participating Dealers.
