MELBOURNE, 04 Feb, 2015 – Ford is adding even more features into the Falcon FG X and Territory MkII range by including satellite navigation as standard across all models.
The satellite navigation system becomes standard on all Falcon sedan, Falcon ute and Territory MkII models from April 1, 2015 production.
Along with Ford’s voice activated SYNC2 connectivity system with Emergency Assistance as standard, the satellite navigation-equipped Falcon FG X and Territory MkII range will become even more appealing to customers who value connectivity and technology in their vehicles.
“The Falcon FG X and Territory MkII already deliver high levels of customer appeal and connectivity with SYNC2, Emergency Assistance, a WiFi hotspot and full digital radio – all standard,” according to Ford General Marketing Manager, David Katic. “With sat-nav now available across the Falcon sedan and ute, as well as Territory ranges, from April 1 production we are aiming to make our customers’ lives more convenient.”
The satellite navigation system uses the same SYNC2™ architecture and high-resolution 8-inch touchscreen system currently standard on G6E, G6E Turbo, Falcon XR6 Turbo sedan, Falcon XR6 Turbo ute, Falcon XR8 and Territory MkII Titanium.
SYNC2 offers customers three distinct ways to interact with the system: through the colour touch screen, physical buttons and advanced voice control. In addition to the satellite navigation system, a driver can also control the car's entertainment system, climate control and linked mobile devices - like compatible smartphones - with voice commands.
The Ford voice-activated SYNC2 satellite navigation system has a high level of clarity, as well as ease of function.
SYNC2’s navigation system delivers raft of natural language voice controls for customers that includes the ability to input a whole address in ‘one shot’ and SYNC2 will intuitively work it out or access favourites using personalised voice tags.
The satellite navigation system will also come with Traffic Message Channel (TMC), which delivers real-time traffic and travel information through FM radio broadcasts or Digital Audio Broadcasting. Sourcing from police, traffic control centres, camera systems, traffic speed detectors, TMC will help customers plan a route that can evade major traffic interruptions.
To enter a new navigation destination into SYNC2’s navigation system, the driver can simply press the voice button and say “Set destination 1735 Sydney Road” and SYNC2 will do the rest. For pre-stored favourites, it is as simple as pushing the voice button and saying “Set destination home”.
In addition, a full address is no longer required for a point of interest location. Instead the driver can say "Find a car park," for example, and the system will understand; to further aid navigation, landmarks and major road junctions are now shown in 3D to make them clearer and easier to understand.
If a customer is seeking an ATM or is hungry, simply pushing the voice control button and saying “Find nearest ATM” or “I’m hungry” will provide several easy options for a driver or front seat passenger to locate the nearest ATM or restaurant.
One Shot destination entry revolutionises how a customer interacts with their navigation system and is another way that SYNC2 helps customers’ easily access in-car technology.
SYNC2’s navigation system also offers for the first time in Australia a split-screen display with detailed intersections, spoken street names, 3D highway junctions and landmark views, and the MICHELIN guide and MICHELIN Green Guide.
The Falcon FG X and Territory MkII also benefit from a more intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) layout and design, as well as dual antennas for high levels of in-car clarity.
The revised HMI sees SYNC2 with a new graphic display system utilising layers and colours to aide navigation of menus and connected functions. The system is easy to use and displays a primary source of information for the vehicle’s comfort and convenience systems.
With a four-quadrant colour touch screen, it is designed to be both engaging and easy to use. The menu allows customers to adjust and personalise audio, climate, phone and various other settings of the in-car convenience and comfort systems.
The addition of satellite navigation across the Falcon FG X and Territory MkII range will see a Manufacturer’s List Price increase of $500.
Also, as satellite navigation will no longer be part of the Luxury Pack option for Falcon XR6 sedan and Falcon XR6 ute, the recommended price of the Luxury Pack will be reduced by $500. The revised cost of the Luxury Pack will be $3,850^ on the Falcon XR6 and $2,100^ on the Falcon XR6 Turbo.
