Model Line-up Confirmed for Refreshed Ford Territory

TS, TX and Titanium gain raft of new features and connectivity

Ford’s advanced in-car connectivity system, SYNC2, standard across the range

WiFi hotspot and voice control lead smart technology story

MELBOURNE, 10 Sept., 2014 – Ford has confirmed the model line-up and features for its refreshed Territory SZ Mk II SUV range. Among the new features in the refreshed Territory line-up are customer-focused smart technologies that include Ford’s SYNC2 connectivity system with Emergency Assistance standard across the range.

Customers will have the choice of three variants – TX, TS and Titanium – in either rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The proven 4.0-litre in-line six cylinder petrol and 2.7-litre V6 TDCi engines carry over in the 2014 Territory line-up.
As part of the upgrades across the Territory SUV range, Ford has responded to customer feedback and added new content:

- Emergency Assistance (all models)
- Front and rear parking sensors (all models)
- Rear reversing camera (all models)
- Rain-sensing wipers (Titanium)
- SYNC2 with 8’’ integrated colour touch screen (all models)
- Voice control system developed in partnership with Nuance (all models)
- Digital Radio (DAB+) (all models)
- 2 x USB ports, SD card slot and Auxiliary jack (all models)
- Dual antenna system (all models)
- Wi Fi hot spot (all models)
- New alloys (all models)

From the outside the refreshed Territory SUV features a distinctive, refined front-end treatment that combines a purposeful new look with the packaging, functionality and space that customers have come to expect from the multi-award winning SUV.
The front fascia features the Ford signature trapezoidal grille with contrasting horizontal bars. A robust lower skid plate and large rectangular fog lamps with matching bezels complete the look.
Titanium customers gain new 18’’ alloy wheels, SYNC2 infotainment system, rain-sensing wipers, stainless steel scuff plates, front fog lamps and side steps. Rear-seat roof-mounted DVD player and seven seats continue as family-focused standard features on Titanium.

TS customers gain new features previously reserved for Titanium including privacy glass, exterior side mirrors with inset indicators and a new front fog lamp design. 18’’ alloy wheels (new design), standard seven-seats and cloth seats with leather side bolsters carry over from the current TS model.

TX gains new features including new 17’’ alloy wheels, an 8’’ colour touch screen with SYNC2 and significantly, a reversing camera making the feature now standard across the Territory range.

Inside the space and functionality that made the Territory a much-loved addition for many families has been enhanced.
The Ford Australia design team responsible for the refreshed Territory’s interior has built on the SUV’s famed practicality. With five or seven-seater flexibility, user-friendly technology and a driver-oriented cabin, the improved instrument cluster graphics, new fabrics and leather have created a premium, family friendly feel and look.
Attention to detail marks the refreshed Territory interior, with a multiple-piece instrument panel spear, increased use of co-ordinated stitching in seat, steering wheel, door trims and automatic shifter boot.
Territory Titanium customers also have the choice of a premium tan leather trim on the seats and door inserts, complemented with black carpeting to provide a rich cabin ambience.
Storage is a key Territory buyer consideration and this remains so with the refreshed SUV. At the base of the centre console and just ahead of the transmission gear shifter is a tambour door that conceals a deeply recessed storage bin, ideal for mobile phones, iPods or small cameras. There is also a dedicated area for a tissue box, including an integrated pen holder and a 12-volt accessory outlet.
Customers who carry their music on the phone will find the integrated cradle in the centre console bin handy with easy connectivity a bonus. As well, the recessed cup holders are well clear of the handbrake and automatic transmission shifter.
The series walk is:

TX –3 models available: RWD petrol, RWD diesel, AWD diesel

TS –3 models available: RWD petrol, RWD diesel, AWD diesel

Titanium –3 models available: RWD petrol, RWD diesel, AWD diesel

Award-winning SUV
More than 155,000 Territory SUVs have been sold since the nameplate launched in 2004 and this SUV remains a favourite with Australian families.

Parking Sensors
All SZ Territory Mk II models now have front and rear parking sensors as standard on all models. The front sensors can be active when the gearshift is in any position other than Park (P) and the vehicle speed is below 10 km/h. The system is activated by pressing the park aid button on the instrument panel.
The sensors cover an area of up to 70 centimetres from the front of the vehicle and 15 to 35 centimetres to the side of the front end of the vehicle. The front and rear parking sensors sound an audible warning when obstacles are near either bumper in the following manner:
- Objects detected by the front sensors are indicated by a high pitched tone from the front radio speakers.
- Objects detected by the rear sensors are indicated by a lower pitched tone from the rear radio speakers.
- The sensing system reports the obstacle that is closest to the front or rear of the vehicle. For example, if an obstacle is 60 centimetres from the front of the vehicle and, at the same time, an obstacle is only 40 centimetres from the rear of the vehicle, the lower pitched tone sounds.
- Alternating warning sounds from the front and rear if there are objects at both bumpers that are closer than 25 centimetres.

Rear Camera with Overlays
A reversing camera is now standard on all Territory models, appearing for the first time on the Territory TX. The camera system has been enhanced for SZ Territory Mk II and includes three different guides to help the driver identify what is behind the vehicle:
- Fixed Guidelines show the path of the vehicle while reversing in a straight line, with green, yellow and red distance indication
- Active Guidelines are shown when you steer the steering wheel, showing your intended path. Active guidelines fade out when the steering wheel is straight.
- Centreline helps align the centre of the vehicle with an object such as a trailer
A manual zoom can be activated to provide a closer view of an object behind the vehicle. In this mode only the centreline is shown.

Human Machine Interface (HMI) with SYNC2
The intuitive HMI layout and design has been improved on the SZ Territory MkII. The revised HMI includes Ford’s advanced in-car connectivity system, SYNC2 with a new graphic display system utilising layers and colours to aid navigation of menus and connected functions. The system is easy to use and displays a primary source of information for the vehicle’s comfort and convenience systems.

With a 4 quadrant colour touch screen, it is designed to be both engaging and easy to use. The menu allows customers to adjust and personalise audio, climate, phone and various other settings of the in-car convenience and comfort systems.
All SZ Territory Mk II models are also fitted with an 8" colour touch screen, a traditional HMI button interface and voice control to access systems such as:
- Entertainment system controls
- Climate control settings
- Phone information
- Satellite navigation with Traffic Message Channel (Titanium only)

Audio System

SYNC2 offers multiple audio options including:
- Radio DAB+, FM, FMAS, AM & AMAS
- Audio files/music streaming from compatible smart-phones via USB or Bluetooth®*
- Audio files from connected USB devices including memory sticks, flash drives, external self-powered hard drives
- SD card slot: Play and browse audio files from SD cards (note: SD slot in Titanium is used for Satellite Navigation software)
- CD/MP3/WMA: Play and browse the contents of an MP3/WMA CD or CD
- Auxiliary input: Play audio from a connected MP3/other audio devices

iPhone and iPod Integration
There is a fully integrated interface between the iPod unit and the vehicle’s audio system on all Territory SUV MkII models.
It allows the user to control the iPod player through SYNC2, HMI buttons or steering wheel mounted buttons and through voice control.

Voice Control System
All SZ Territory Mk II models now have the convenience of SYNC2’s voice control system as standard. The in-car functions that can be controlled by voice include entertainment, climate, phone, satellite navigation (Titanium only) and general settings.

Digital Radio (DAB +)
A DAB+ digital radio is standard on all Territory Mk II models. It provides a high quality audio signal due to digital broadcasting, avoiding any of the interference noises typical of a traditional AM/FM radio station.
Passengers can also see more information, via the touch screen, of what the digital radio is playing. It shows the title and artist of the song, the news headlines, or the latest sports results (note: availability of information displayed is dependent on the broadcast). Complementing the DAB+ radio system is a dual antenna system on all Territory Mk II models and Wi-Fi connectivity.
To improve radio reception Ford has fitted an antenna in the roof and another behind the front bumper.
The Wi-Fi capability creates a wireless network hotspot within the vehicle, thereby allowing other devices such as personal computers or games to be operated in the vehicle.
