Oh and only one driver argued he wasn't at fault; tried to argue I should not have stopped for the red light and that as there was no traffic I should have proceeded on the red.

Interestingly, although I most often see female drivers using mobile phones, all but two of the 9 offenders were male. I guess females are better are multitasking.

Two of the minors happened within weeks at the corner of St George's Terrace and William Street when people on mobile phones behind me started moving before the light went green. The contributing factor there was they had recently changed the lights so pedestrians could not cross diagonally or from the two different cross streets at the same time; I think the drivers had taken their queue to move off from the when the pedestrians crossing from one direction stopped (previously it would have meant the lights were about to turn green). From regularly driving through the intersection while using their mobile phones (one was a Taxi driver) their subconscious had probably attuned them to moving off when the pedestrians stopped crossing.

Yes I can appreciate that view. I also used to lease a car bay in the Perth Bus station and one day while, as a pedestrian, crossing the lights at the bottom of King nearly got killed by a YL texting and driving through the red lights. She bushed past me and kept on driving head down totally oblivious to how close she had come to killing me.

PS and she was probably also doing 70 in a 50 zone.

Well done WAPOL, good to see proper traffic policing rather than the extreme Constable Kodak focus.

And hand over the mobile for a period of time as well - that would hurt many (most?) where it hurts most!

Half the country would come to a standstill. Most people think that the world didn't exist pre mobile phones. Ever been around somebody that left their phone at home or the battery has run dead?

i dont understand the using the phone ****
a phone holder is worth what a pack of smokes is and you just set the thing to hands free and to answer after a few rings
you dont have to sync them with cars nowadays
there are other options

young women are shocking, always seem\ them texting away

In that case, take their license off them for 12 months, like a drink-driver. Wont be long before we see just as many serious injuries and fatalities as the former.

On my 40km return trip to work & back in 40 to 100 speed zones I see more drama caused buy:

1. Inattentiveness - swerving all over the shop.
2. Apathy - sitting in right lane with no concern for speed limit
3. S***head factor - tailgating and bully tactics as nobody should be in their way.

I rarely see cars speeding (I sure they do) but the above causes daily angst in my little world. Perhaps mobile phones & lack of common courtesy is the root of the problem?

I vote for phone crushing/phone impounding instead of car crushing. I guarantee there will be more upset people losing their phone (which may as well be surgically attached) than any car impounding.

As long as the offender gets to take everything off it first - memories of loved ones, their contacts list (if not using the SIM), hidden sex videos, music, etc.

Did anyone see this new dashcam video of a WA unmarked police bike being bumped into by an SUV?

I hope they bring this in, in Victoria I'm sick of missing green arrows cause someone is sleeping at the lights or texting or doing god knows whatever else.

And they should fine the Indian cabbies in Melbourne for using their horn at you, as soon as the light goes green. I keep telling them it's not Indian we don't use our horn's here 24/7 like you guys do back home.

I like to think I have a good reaction tme to lights but lately its like everyone is asleep behind the wheel at lights.
