Default Carsales.com.au Inflation

OK before I jump the gun just wanted to see if I have missed a link on their site.

Im putting a car for sale and last time I did it was about 18 months ago and the cost all up was $20. Now unless I am mistaken it is now $60! And thats the cheap option!

Needless to say ill advertise here aswell, but holy heck thats a fair jump in that time!

Link here:

http://www.carsales.com.au/sell-your-car/

Ill probably end up doing it anyway as it as worked with my past 3 cars, so hard to overly complain but usually one increments the costs in stages, thats a fair hike!

Carsales has nothing to do with Renoylds anymore. It's actually a public company. Majority ownership by PBL media.

Renoylds are now called Pentana BTW.

Seems that this isn't the only place that advertising your car for sale has increased.

Last time I sold a car, I was able to advertise in my local paper for $40 in a run it 'till you sell it add. Now they want more than that to advertise it for one issue and its a daily paper!

Makes car sales look cheap!

I tried carsales and got 1 call and 1 text in 4 weeks on a car that was the cheapest in QLD for its year / model..

got 3 phone enquiries today from carsguide paper add alone, but i sold it last week on ebay.

Try carsguide that gives you the free paper add too, its around 25 for memory.

Try being a dealer. They pay $37.50 every time you submit an enquiry on top of the monthly fees.

they are a busniess, and if they are doing the right thing there is a reason their cars do cost more, I would bet on average there is more dodgy private sellers then there are dodgy dealers out there ;)

Then you'd think they would take the time to reply to your inquiry as well.
Ive inquired about several dealer advertised cars and didnt receive a single reply from any of them.

Now that i know they get charged each time.........

the worst thing dealers do on carsales is advertise their vehicles in the wrong area just wasting buyers time. i lost count of the number of times i enquired about a car that was listed in Newcastle only to have a dealer contact me from Coffs Harbour or the South Coast

I used carsales to sell a vehicle in September of 2008 and it was $45 for the most basic option then, so I'm not to sure how you arrived at a $20 price for March 2009???

I am in new car sales and I spend about $6k every month on carsales.com.au. Cost of doing business I guess and yes its paid per lead but they have a good system that cannot be abused etc.

And BOSHOG... you'd be surprised. I'd have a fun time trying to claw back the $6k in bills from the cars I sell off there. All of them are advertised virtually close to what the car actually owes me simply to draw in business from other sides of town that I usually wouldn't attract.
