Default I Feel Lucky

Was on my way to the shops this afternoon.... and an elderly Lady decided to use my car as her brakes.
Coming to a complete stop about a metre beyond where the rear of my car was from approx 60-70kph :(

Funnily enough.... the Police were on the opposite side on the dual carriageway booking a P plater in a Commodore !

I'm just glad the kids weren't with me in the car...
Quite a loud bang and the backrest of my car is 3 inches further back than were I normally place it.

Luckily we are both fully insured and walked away from this (allthough I'm certainly a little tender in places)

Cars will probably both go to heaven though.... Hmmmmm, what to get next ?

Glad no one is hurt.
Your car is written off - roof is bent along with th eother damage.
hers will be the same deal - written off.

Did she get a ticket at all?
usually the person at fault does these day, negligence or dangerous driving or the likes.

Hope you get a good pay out.

That was a solid hit to bend the tow bar in that far.

I presume she will get a ticket davway...
She went off in an ambulance for a checkup because she was complaining of chest pain...
a repercussion of seatbelt pretensioners and the airbag going of I suspect

She had just been to a funeral.... so maybe she shouldn't have been

WOW! That's nasty. Glad to hear no one was hurt. Having just come from a funeral, the lady was lucky not to have caused another one! I can certainly see why you feel lucky!

As for a what car to get next....I can see you in an XC Coupe

That's no bloody excuse!

Any person with working vision can see when a car is coming closer. I don't like to attack minorities, but elderly drivers are, to me, becoming more of a hazard in day to day driving, the amount of times I've nearly been side swiped or cut off in roundabouts is astonishing D:

No one hurt, a good accident then. Haggle hard with the insurance company, don't accept their first offer.

I don't think anyone needs to be getting upset at the old girl....

I feel I was very fortunate to be sitting in my BA wagon and thank FORD for designing a vehicle that could withstand such an impact and let me walk away from it....

I would hated to have been at a pedestrian crossing without the BA... thats for sure !
(no, the crash wasn't at a pedestrian crossing, as the pics clearly show)

This is the first Major car accident I have been in... and I'm nearly 40.

Certainly has given me a better view on a few things

Imagine the result if I had been on my motorbike... or in my XE

Certainly a big hit to cause that much damage even with a tow bar!

Sorry to see

wow thats a fair hit. Lucky noone was hurt

I may be wrong but you said the police were on the opposite side of the highway booking someone. Good chance the driver was spying on this and wasnt paying attention to the rd.

Ive seen it alot with drivers. They see the red and blues flashing. take a good long look to see if they can work out whats happened and then BANG run into the back of someone. If she was paying attention even if your brake lights wernt working you can still tell when a car is slowing down let alone stopped.

Old ladies typically dont have mobile phones nor facebook.

Who knows.. Atleast no one was hurt, cars can be easily replaced.

Probably not, but I notice many corolla drivers swing the steering right just before they turn left . It's like they are driving a bus and lane share when turning.

Almost been side swiped many times by people doing that.

Also for a bit of entertainment, find a corolla driving. Overtake them on the left. As the front of your car passes the front of theirs look out your window and watch them suddenly yank the steering to the right.
I think it's a natural reaction because many people struggle to drive in 1 lane.

It's not limited to Corollas, but they seam to be the main offender.

Bummer another wagon dead :(
Good thing it was only a rear ender.

I was at work when an AU ute ploughed into the back of a non moving CX7 outside at 70kmph (was the speed limit, only half a second of screeching tyres before the crunch). The cx7 was shunted 5m, the sound the hit made was incredible!
I bet your looking in the rear view alot more now

Lay off the old girl. It could have happened to anyone and on top of that, she'd just been at a funeral.
I suppose some of you have never made mistakes at anything in your life have you? Oh, and BTW, one day you people out against the elderly will get old; that is unless you kill yourself out of stupidity and recklessness.

To the OP, glad to see you came out of it OK and that no one was seriously injured. Hopefully the chest pains on the lady were only from the seat belt and nothing else. When do you expect to hear from the insurance company?

I actually had to brake hard myself... but due to the ABS brakes I stopped more than a car length from the vehicle in front of me....

As someone said above...
the flashing lights of the police vehicle across the road could have been a distraction.

Another vehicle very nearly ran up the bottom of people trying to get passed the carnage...

A wet afternoon makes for plenty of accidents and we even had a
chuckle when the accident i was involved in came over the radio traffic report

OK... so the old girl is out of her overnight stay at the hospital and I now have her insurance company details

Peruse this thread in the Advice Central section please

ugh!
my brother owned a XD Wagon and that got written off by someone slamming into the back of him too.
he described it "i'd been at the red light for several minutes when i saw a car behind approaching rapidly. i put both feet on the brake a waited for the hit. She said i stopped suddenly".

then he bought a commodore.
