Purolator Pureone oil filter

Well, a few months ago I managed to get my hands on to 2 purolator oil filters to try out. The second one went into the car yesterday.. the first one came out.
So what did I think of it? Well, to be honest, I was a bit surprised. I figured an oil filter is an oil filter, not much difference. I was wrong. Overall, I can say that the purolator filter was easily the best filter I’ve had in the car. It simply kept the oil cleaner for longer. So long in fact that I actually skipped a regular service just to test it out and see what it could do.
I used to change oil every 5000kms. At that stage it was usually black as tar and felt like water (yes, even penrite). With the purolator the oil stayed in better condition for longer so I went to 7000kms. At that point the oil started to break down very rapidly regardless. So with this one I’m going back to the 5000kms intervals but there will be a difference. I will still change as often as I used to but the oil coming out will be in better condition… that to me means that the engine protection has to be better as I’m not letting the oil degrade as much while the engine is using it. The purolator filter has won me, seems to do the job better than all the others I’ve tried and given the hard time I’ve given my engine it will need all the protection it can get!

(for the record I'm trying Havoline semi-synth oil this time.. just to see if it is any good)

I agrea with you Casp. I have been using Pureone for 9 months. With out a doubt the best filter on the market.

Very much so. Oil stays much cleaner for longer. One off the main reasons is due to the location off to pressure release valve. At high rpm all filters will open there pressure release valve due to the pressure being overwhelming, and allow more oil to the moving parts. On the Pure one the valve is located as such that when the valve is released it does not allow the contaminates back into the engine, as does other filters.

I also read a article about oil filter test and it was noted that the Ryco? or Repco? heavy duty was the same as the Pure one, as they are made by the same company.... But I will be sticking with Pure one.....

Ive always used Pureone oil filters... and when i change my oil its always still a gold tinge, even if i miss a service.. i use Penrite HPR10..
ive never used another filter so i cant compare, but with my experiences and reading this thread, i dont think i need to..

Casper , where did you pick up these filters from?

oh and what penrite oil do you use? I initally used HPR10 in the VCT but have since switched to Shell Helix Ultra.

I actually got them off Bluedriver but most shops have them now.
I used penrite and it seemed pretty good but no better than Helix Ultra in the long term. For the first 3000kms penrite holds up really well (probably better then Shell) but it breaks down to crap very quickly after about 4000kms. The purolater made it last a fair bit longer but by 7000kms it was screwed - royally! I'm trying Havoline now but if its no good I'm going back to Helix Ultra too... it just seems to be the best oil I've used in my car till now.

What is the cost of this filter? Could be like those energy saver flouro globes... last 3x longer, cost 20x more...

If that filter is stoopid expensive, you'd be just better off changing oil and normal filter every 2500 instead...

I got 2 of the oil filters in the garage. When it's next in for a service, i'll get em to use it instead of the motorcraft filter

I told you they were good Casper and I'm glad you checked them out.

The brand is only one of the biggest names in the USA and started manufacturing in 1923 so they know a thing or to about filtration. Been a market leader for a long time.
OE business in the US includes : Ford,Chrysler,Toyota,Mitsubishi,Subaru,Mazda,Nissa n,Caterpillar,Isuzu and GM.

Distribution of the product will be more aggressive for ' 06 here in Oz.
Autopro and other Independant stores already are selling the PremiunPlus filter and PureOne is the next level.

don't use havaline oil,,it is crap ,,i used it and had nothing but noisy lifters till i changed to another oil,,it's not good..

Brilliant filters from the states! they designed the original filter back in 1923. I swear by them & am about to import some more. Performance plus with little outlay.

I picked up a couple of pureone oil filters at Advance auto parts in the US last year and a Wix oil filter to suit the Fords as well the Puralators sells for $3.99US & the WIX was about $5US. Both are good filters better than Ryco's.
Combined with using Shell Ultra fully synthetic 5w-40w & the regular oil changes my mtr should last me for a few more years before I upgrade.

I brought one today for under $7! after reading this thread. Did an oil change and strapped it on, I guess we'll see how it goes!

I used to use those but I have found that fleetguard filters are even better.

Mmmm thats a bloody top price must be for the PremiunPlus which is good anyway.
PureOne goes up another level and at retail should be $12 - $15 ea

Yeah mate, it's not a Ryco, it was sitting next to the ryco! Purolator PureOne Oil Filter is says on the box and Purolater Z9 Oil filter is says on the reciept.

Just to change the points and whizz off in another direction, I use Baldwin oil filters. The B2-HPG (High Pressure Glass) is for Falcons and I have used these since XD days. I change the oil at 10,000 km and it's good enough to use in other cars further down the food chain like mini's.

I have always used Valvoline with the highest possibe S code (SF is a less developed oil whereas SL is more technically developed). In my present AU2, I use Valvoline Armoured.

The filters are a bit dear at about $19.00 but my family has Falcons running nearly up to 400,000 kms with these filters and 10,000 intervals.
