Default At what point does a repost become accpetable?

Okay, here's a poll for everyone. As a fairly new member to this forums, I often come across funny threads that are quickly badged 'repost' and either shut down or ignored, to my dismay. Considering that there is a fairly high turnover of new members on this site, i propose the following poll question:

At what point does it become 'acceptable' to accidently repost a topic?

In paticular, i'm referring to material that would normally go in 'The Bar.'

Please limit comments to being CONSTRUCTIVE only. I'm more interested in the poll results.

Good Q... For me, it seems people are too quick to spout REPOST on many forums. I know I don't always post stuff with a topic directly related to the content of the post, especially in chit-chat forums. This makes the search function useless to a new member who has searched and thinks they're bringing something new.

I say search, if nothing comes up post it, if YOU think it's a repost then at least link to the original instead of spouting off for the sake of it.

if a members posts the words REPOST in a thread they should take the time to find the orignal thread so it can be read.
The thread may be an old topic to them, but not to the new users.

I usually only look at threads on the front page, so when a thread is back on page 3 and out sight, out of mind for many, they might repost. If the existing thread is on the first page, then it's a bit slack to repost then.

maybe if people titled their posts accordingly, there wouldnt be the need to repost material.

i dont mind repost because some threads have 10 pages and people dont bother reading them sometimes. so if you want to add a fresh idea about that topic, you wont get many replys due to most people thinking that there wouldnt be much new information on the topic after all those pages. besides we have lots of new members and they may have not read or heard about the previous thread. if this new thread shows no new information, i think that person should be shown a link to the other thread, instead of people shouting repost at them. cheers

I dont mind people saying "Repost" but I think it would be nice to add the link also. With the amount of threads that often move very quickly on ere. It doesnt take long before its buried a few pages back.

If it's "one of those things" from the internet that EVERYONE has seen then i dont see it being welcomed on any forum with open arms.

But I dont see the big deal with reposts. If you've seen it before, move on.
