So are they saying that the US will get Mustang based Sedans and Wagons and a Freestyle redesign in 2008/2009
or are they saying that the Falcon will return to the US in 2008/2009 as a RWD Musclecar type like 300C and share commonality like IRS with Mustang. Mmmm Falcon coupe Mustang sibling...I'd like to see that. Freestyle/Territory perhaps. Sounds a lot like Ford OZ may have a fine future as the Rear drive specialists like Holden for GMH. Anything they can do we can do better! |

I tell ya what, Ford NEED to Export the Falcon to the US.
Export is just about the only thing keeping Holden afloat at the moment.

An Interceptor concept sounds great (the name that is), but its architecture has me a bit worried as it's being based off the Mustang. Is it just a marketing ploy having the Interceptor based off the Mustang or is the Orion/E8 platform too expensive for the Ford US brand?
Ford quashes AutoWeek’s ’Stang sedan report, announces Mustang-based sedan concept for Detroit By BOB GRITZINGER AutoWeek.com | Published 12/15/06, 3:32 pm et Ford officials have “categorically” denied plans to build a sedan or wagon version of the iconic Mustang, but at the same time confirmed that the Dearborn automaker will show a Mustang-based, rear-drive, four-door concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. AutoWeek reported in its Dec. 18 issue and on autoweek.com that Ford product planners last fall met to discuss ways to take the Mustang mainstream and global, possibly by expanding the lineup to include sedan or wagon variants. In a release issued Dec. 15, Ford said the company has no plans to expand the Mustang line. The release stated: “Ford Motor Company today made clear that recent media speculation concerning an expanded Mustang line—including a sedan and wagon model to be sold in global markets—is not true. Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 performance car. “At the 2007 North American International Auto Show, Ford will unveil a four-door, rear-wheel-drive concept car. The concept, known as ‘The Interceptor,’ is based on the Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive architecture but it is not a Mustang and no production plans have been announced. Additional information on the Ford rear-drive concept will be available Dec. 31, 2006.” AutoWeek stands by its sources who say Ford is developing various models from the sixth-generation Mustang platform, due in 2011. Those sources suggest a four-door Mustang would be a strong option, especially in the global marketplace. Other options include a four-door Lincoln with independent rear suspension and a twin-turbo V6, which is rumored for a debut at the Detroit show along with the Interceptor. |

I kind of like them :the_finge , the 65/6 looks kinda funky and I could see myself in that.
Whereas the current shape model has a slight 300C wagon look about it, and that is selling like crazy in the States. Evolution people is the way forward, some people love muscle cars but find them far too impractical as they may have a family and can't afford too many toys in the garage. Something like a Mustang wagon, although it may be called something else, would be a great idea for those people, and most would pay the extra to have a car that they can use everyday for the family and still have fun in on the weekends. I'm sure that many of you here who have families would love a Mustang but it's far too impractical, not to mention pricey, but if you could have a family wagon with the running gear I'm sure you would pay the extra. It's like the Stagea in Japan, the GT-R is impractical in more ways than one in Japan especially with little room for housing let alone big garages, so Nissan had a go and put out a version that you could throw the kids and the dog in as well as a heap of luggage. To top it off it went like stink for a pretty sedate looking 'family wagon'. Some things we don't like the first time we see or here about them but learn to appreciate them in time, good example would be the AU when it was first released. I remember thinking and commenting on how ugly they looked, I have owned one since 2001, new. A lot of people look very differently at them now and have a new found respect and admiration for them, the T-Series in particular, but still look at an AU as reasonable choice of a second family car with a bit of go and a decent look. 5 years ago Turbo and Ford were not 2 words you would usually use in the same sentence unless you were talking about a limited run earlier model or a custom job, most people thought it would 'rice' the name. I think we know what peoples views are now.

Well guy's if you've read the lastest developments then you will have noticed that making a Mustang Sedan and Wagon was never actually part of the plan. The plan is to make a RWD sedan off the Mustang platform, which will be shown in concept form at Detroit next month.

Ford exec: "Lets get Ford AU to make us cars!"
Other ford execs: "Yeah! What else ya got?" Ford exec: "Lets also build a 4 door Mustang with a wagon rear! The die-hards wont hate that at all, nor will it be an insult to the cars heritage! Lets completely disregard all the hi-po 4 doors Ford AU already have." Other ford execs: "Yeah!" |

Agreed, Ford Aus should export the falcons, F6 and the XR's to the USA especially for replacement of the crown vic. The roads there are beautiful and an F6 or similar would absolutely look the coolest with all of the cop crap hanging off. The crown vics they use now look fugly, they look like they're gonna roll and have no style whatsoever. When you think about it, we have some pretty nice police cars here.
Chevypower an oxymoron; classic. Reminds me of the green VZ I saw with SS badges and a V8 badge that was obviously a 6 by the way the exhaust sounded like a kingswood. There's nothing quite like a bogan... err.... Holden.

Of course, the Mustang then eventually got it's own separate development, and the Falcon in America was dropped (but stayed strong in Oz). My point?? A Mustang/Falcon wagon would just be going full circle.
