Not much to comment on the mower front, except I had a Briggs and Stratton mower for 25 years, it was a pearler, but when it died I bought a Honda 4 stroke, best mower ever. Low maintenance and starts every time, one pull. Bought it about 5 or 6 years ago.

I would be known in the neighbourhood as being a 'lawn nut'. Edges must be done and straight, never mow too low. Fertilise to keep it looking nice. Mow regular. Plenty of water in summer

You're not a lawn nut if you've only got a regular push mower.... the bloke over my back fence, now he's a lawn nut, but I'm damned if his lawn doesnt look like it'd be nicer to sleep on than my bed.....

I always wondered what that carrier cast into the chassis, was for! Great information. Perhaps someone could develop a working prototype and then produce a small run for the collectors.

I'm surprised no one has done this yet.

Since joining that group, I've come across guys who are remaking certain parts such as wheels, rubber "tyres", wheel caps, fuel caps, reproduction decals, blade and bolt sets, air filter/choke caps, even the edger attachment trim plate. That's in addition to Restorers Choice, who I discovered on day of buying the mower. He is a contributor in that group, so I got to thank him for his efforts.

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?i...machinerybloke

He reproduces a variety of parts, including exhaust gaskets, the large pan muffler gasket, transfer port gaskets, head gaskets for both 125 and 160cc engines, the special carb cap and clips, blade disk nut, fuel tap rebuild kits. For my project, I ordered one of his 3F, 3S and 3L carburetor rebuild kits, which are offered in standard OE and a thicker/more durable gasket set.

In grand scheme of things, making parts to keep a 70-year-old lawn mower running is not all that important. But I'm grateful there are people who enjoy doing this, in turn keeping a piece of Aussie history alive.

I'm also surprised at much I have enjoyed this project. I never really intended on owning something like this, I've always preferred new stuff. But the simplicity is remarkable, not to mention how well cuts. It arrived a day after I had been released from my job, and two days after my colleague lost her decade long battle with cancer. So, it was a very tense period for me. And yet, this little old Victa kept my mind busy, distracted................. content.

In the same way people are amused (bemused) with how much time, money and effort I put into car care, I'm like that with the lawn nuts. Not that I'm against it, nothing like the look and smell of well-maintained lawn. For me, lawn care is just an excuse to play around with small engines..................and make money in the process.

It’s nice when a simple tool does the job well. Like chopping in door hinge rebates with a mallet and chisel, no router or jig.

Meanwhile, spelling mistake aside, what's wrong with this one?

Great Chassis and catcher, I have used one for years with a Sanli Lawn Beetle
ohv 350 engine on it. I did however get rid of the blade bar and fitted a conventional 4 blade disc.
