Default Ford Aus worker threatened with bomb.

Just found the following NEWS STORY about a worker that crossed a union picket line at the Geelong plant that has received a bomb threat, and had his toolbox and locker smashed.

They should prosecute the offender to the full extent of the (terrorism) law. There is absolutely no need for this sort of behaviour in a workplace.

What a crock! I can't believe people would be that moronic. I hope they didn't steal his tools while they were at it. That would be a shame if he couldn't continue to work. Good on him for putting in the over time.

Why would a union act like this (obviously it was union)

Our media has a lot to answer for a lot of rubbish published... daily !!

Paul Gover are you listening ?

Where is the professionalism ? there is a lot of sensationalism though ....

I read the story in the paper, the Union reps also need a good long hard look at themselves (if the quotes published are in fact correct).

Wow, picket lines seem to be coming back in fashion don't they... oh, and a Union using stand-over tactics to intimidate - who'd have thunk it lol.

I guess they would have been happier over at Holden for the last year or so....

If there was a 'bomb', normally people don't get warnings.

Or Tonsley Park. Oh wait.

I don't get it to tell you the truth. Ford's Geelong plant was dead and buried and rose out of the ashes like a phoenix, I don't think the wisest thing to do now is to rock the boat with a company that is only now just turning a profit, and put added pressure on something that is already dying a slow death.

I love the I6. Everybody does. Mine has done 290,000 of the hardest kilometers that you could ask of an engine, and still performs like the car just rolled off the Broady line. But lets be honest, the old girl is in the sunset of her life. There will be a time where there will no longer be a Ford plant in Geelong, so don't push the issue while there still is one.

Comments directed at the Union involved are obviously from those with "anti union" views, I would consider these views as outdated as the methods used by the Union involved in this instance (if reports are correct). A balanced view anyone?

The comments in the Geelong Advertiser are attributed to a Union Official:

Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union organiser Ian Thomas said he supported the company's threat to sack anyone found to have planted the fake bomb or damaged property but denied the prank was in response to breaking a picket line."There have been several other incidents where this worker has had disagreements with people on the workshop floor," Mr Thomas said.

"There is more than one reason for that to have happened to his tool box.

"This worker has had personal arguments with other people that he works with at Ford.

"This bloke has not made many friends while at Ford but by no means would we ever condone that type of action.

"Maybe Osama bin Laden has been down there for a visit."

Why would this Union Official Slander an Individual in the media without the result of an official investigation ?

Best to 'shutup' and wait for the official results of that to be annouced.

Smacks of a bit of a Union Campaign to me.

Lets wait to see what happens....

Hear Hear, noting if the unions WERENT there, the issue wouldnt exist as all the workers would have been imported Pakis working for $10. an hour while our boys are unemployed coz they simply wont tolerate the ********.

Get over folks, get over your political correctnes and realise we are being sold out.
Remember its a VERY RARE occasion of any fella gaining a $ rise or condition just coz his boss liked him. LONG LIVE THE UNIONS

i have been in a few unions in my 30 odd years in the work force, i`ve seen good and bad on both sides of the fence, unionist`s and non unionist`s, anyone who`s ever been shafted by a boss will certainly aprecciate a bit of union back up, on the other hand i can remember trying to get a load of steel when the workers were abuseing the union power (AMW) that they had and where playing funny buggers, like keeping you waiting for hours promising to load you, then they head off for home, one thing to remember the union can`t control every member, and there are plenty of silly ones, just as there are plenty of silly non union members, another thing i have found though, non union members usually don`t mind accepting pay rises and benefits that union members have fought and paid for over the years.

I totally agree, i am a Delegate at work for some 150 linehaul drivers and atm the company is screwing us big time with asking us to pay for damage to the truck whislt at work. The union has backed us and is taking it to court. I have about 50 union bashing drivers now wanting union forms to join.

Unions got u your 4 weeks annual leave and they do fight for ur rights. But we know that 1% of all human life has that element and it would be foolish to think otherwise i.e Hoons and noone can help that. To say they are like the Mafia is very rude and sad to c someone make a poor judgement like that. Have u ever been to a union office or talked to a Union delegate? Not ur mate that was a member on the wharfs 30 years ago and got sacked for knocking off stock. If want a good version of a good union thing look up the Shearers strike, Or watch Bastard boys the ABC show for ur Benefit.

Lets see what happens in the media and what spin they can generate. IMO geelong needs a good bomb if they get rid of Abblett from the cats

in half of the strikes i have been involved with, the union or their high up delegates supplied alcohol for everyone who did not work. very responsible to inflame an already passionate situation with mind altering substances. it really helps rational thoughts
