Default Battery light on.

Hi All.
we have a 2007 mondeo TDCI.
Just wondering if anyone as had their battery light come on for maybe 1 or 2 minutes and then go off again.
Has only happened once but we have not had the car long and just want to check.

Sorry, just to add:
My hubby took if for a drive just now and the battery light didn't come on, but the electric seat adjustment is now not working! Electrical fault maybe?

Get a new battery.

If you haven't changed it yet, probably wise to do so, otherwise you'll need a tow to a dealer to get the car sorted.

Can you get it to happen in the driveway at idle?

If you can get it to come on check battery voltage with a multimeter, if its charging it should be anywhere from 13.4-14.8V.

Battery light indicates an alternator problem.

Just to update, the light hasn't some on again, was just that once. Should we try a battery first or get it checked.

You can take it in to an auto electrician and have them do charge rate test and load test the battery, but its probably not worth the $$$, it would be a 30 minute job.

Hell you could go out to SCA and buy one of those $10 multimeters and do the charge rate test yourself if you wanted.

Put the multimeter on DC 20V, red lead in the socket with V and the black lead in the socket with COM. With the car off and nothing on, put the red lead on the positive terminal and the black lead on the negative terminal, write down voltage, it should be close to 12V.

With the car at idle, same thing again, check voltage and write it down, should be around 13.4V.

Rev the car up to 2500 RPM and check it again same way, should be higher up to 14.8V.

That a charge rate test to check if the alternator is charging the battery, which it would be.

With a load tester, take it into an auto electrician, they have a machine which you put onto the battery and it loads it up to the CCA rating on the battery and you can see what it is really putting out.
